During a Summer Game Fest discussion, Wizards of the Coast president John Hight talked about plans to branch out from traditional RPG games, citing the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons action game as an example.
While Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) will continue to be developed in partnership with Larian Studios, the new game will be developed by Giant Skull, led by ex-Star Wars Jedi director Stig Asmussen and will offer a different focus on presenting D&D universe possibilities.
Hight and Asmussen did not reveal specific details about the new game, saying that they are at an early stage with the project and concentrating on developing underlying themes and features to establish a strong foundation before moving forward.
Asmussen drew on his experience with single-player action from the Star Wars Jedi game and cited D&D’s mythology as a rich resource for interesting future development.
Despite the advent of the new D&D game, Hight confirmed that work on BG3 would continue.
