Digital games distributor Steam is currently offering the opportunity to buy the PC version of Borderlands 2, in its Basic Edition form, at no cost, but some reviewers are concerned about the implications of a clause in its revised Terms of Service.
In a typical month the game attracts around 200 mostly positive reviews, but it has recently suffered a spate of review bombing, with 1980 thumbs down compared to 280 positive reviews over the past two days.
Borderlands content creator Hellfire apparently started the phenomenon in a YouTube video, and has crystallised players’ concerns around changes to the game’s terms and conditions, specifically a clause that reads: “You will not use exploits or illegal or unauthorised means to interfere with or adversely impact any other user’s ability to use the services as intended,…“.
Some reviewers are accusing publisher 2K/Take-Two of implementing spyware through the updated terms.
