Ishizaki states that while the main focus of the game was on multiplayer for three players, the development team is aware that some players would like to play alone or in a two-player team, and so a duos mode is something that the company is looking at and may introduce in a post-launch support update.
The omission of a duos mode was apparently an oversight during development, with the developers focusing on making the game balanced and enjoyable for solo players.
Ishizaki’s comments follow the recent news that an Elden Ring movie is in the early stages of development.
