Summary
Unknown Worlds, the developers of Subnautica and Subnautica 2, have filed a lawsuit against directors Charlie Cleveland, CEO Ted Gill, and studio co-founder Max McGuire.
The lawsuit claims that the three executives were fired for causing a “functional departure” from game development and missing deadlines for the unfinished Subnautica 2, the delays meaning a $250m bonus for finishing within a certain time frame would no longer be paid out.
It is also alleged that Cleveland, Gill and McGuire all accessed and stole over 70,000 files from their former company when they were fired.
The three are also involved in a separate lawsuit against Unknown Worlds and publisher Krafton, wherein they allege they were unfairly dismissed.
Krafton claims it is suing Unknown Worlds on their behalf as the contracts, intellectual property, and confidential information belong to them.
