Summary
Rock, Paper, Shotgun author Graham Smith discusses the developer diaries for Skyblivion, the team’s mod that seeks to re-imagine Bethesda’s 2006 game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion entirely within the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Smith highlights how the mod not only upgrades the game’s cosmetics but also increases the size of areas and adds details that were not included in the original game.
For example, Fort Sutch was cut from the original game but the team have rebuilt it to be a fully explorable ruined castle town.
Smith admits that despite enjoying the official Oblivion Remaster on its release, he is still intrigued by Skyblivion’s aggressive expansion of the original game.
However, he also laments the poor performance of the official remaster, mentioning the lack of optimization and bizarre design choices which could be a tragedy for the mod if they reproduce these problems.
