Switch modder owes Nintendo $2 million after representing himself in court

Summary
Ryan Daly, who was the operator of ModdedHardware.com, has been ordered to pay Nintendo $2m after a settlement over the sale of mod chips to bypass DRM on Switch consoles, and to copy and distribute Nintendo games.
The judgment states that Daly sold devices that only had limited commercial use, and were primarily used to circumvent technological protection measures.
It concluded that Daly had copied and distributed Nintendo games, and despite agreeing to stop selling the devices in March 2024, continued to do so, resulting in the Japanese gaming company taking Daly to court.
In a separate case, a defendant in the UK recently avoided a possible prison sentence by proving that they too had purchased a modded Switch from Daly.
