Summary
Accessory maker Genki is paying Nintendo undisclosed damages over a promotional stunt ahead of the Switch 2 unveiling.
At CES in January, Genki showed a 3D-printed mockup of the Switch 2, as well as posting a video of the device on social media, claiming it was an accurate depiction of the much-rumoured console.
The stunt resulted in Nintendo filing a lawsuit in May, with the company claiming that Genki’s actions amounted to trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising, as it had not authorised the device.
Reports at the time suggested that Nintendo lawyers visited Genki’s CES booth after the device started attracting attention.
However, Genki reportedly claimed it didn’t need to worry as it hadn’t signed an NDA with Nintendo.
