Civilization VII team at Firaxis Games faces layoffs

US gaming company Take-Two, which owns studio Firaxis Games, has undergone layoffs affecting 14% of its workforce.
Reports emerged on social media and via Game Developer, which cited an internal company memo published by AVGF.
Following the cutbacks, Take-Two confirmed that some staff had been let go at Firaxis, while a spokesperson for the company said the studio was restructuring to boost collaboration and creativity.
The Firaxis Studios hit game Civilization VII, which received mixed reviews on its release in February this year, has undergone several bug fixes and tweaks to the gameplay formula since then, in an attempt to boost its player numbers.
Following the layoffs, Civilization VII’s lead designer, Ed Beach, announced he was departing Firaxis.
