Summary
Gaming PC manufacturers Asus and Microsoft are releasing the ROG Xbox Ally series on 16 October.
The devices come in two versions, both of which run a version of Windows 11 redesigned for gaming with a controller.
While Microsoft hasn’t released pricing information, the specifications of the devices are detailed.
Both variants share a 7-inch, 1080p IPS screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 support, and internal storage of either 512GB or 1TB.
The regular ROG Xbox Ally features an AMD Ryzen Z2 A chip, while the ROG Xbox Ally X boasts a Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip with improved CPU and GPU performance as well as a built-in neural processing unit.
This gives the Ally X a bigger battery and a weight of around a tenth of a pound more than the regular Ally.
The ROG Xbox Ally series seeks to compete with Steam Deck, Switch 2, and past Asus ROG handhelds.
