Summary
Nvidia has announced it will no longer be supporting Windows 10 beyond October 2026, despite Microsoft planning to end support for the operating system in 2025.
This means that from 2026 onwards, only those with Windows 11 will be able to receive graphics driver updates for their Nvidia GPUs, including newer models.
At the same time, support for Maxwell, Pascal and Volta GPU architectures will end after October 2025, affecting GPUs in the GTX 900 and 10-series, including the popular GTX 1060.
The announcements highlight the urgency for gamers with ageing hardware to update their systems, with Windows 11 and newer GPUs the only options for continued state-of-the-art driver support.
For those unable to update, alternative options such as the free Nvidia GeForce Now could provide continued modern gaming capabilities.
Nvidia’s announcement also underscores the current difficulties many are having amid the ongoing semiconductor shortage, causing delays on orders for newer hardware.
