Summary

  • Ars Technica has discovered a Reddit post demonstrating a new colour palette added to the Virtual Boy Wario Land game.
  • The 1990’s Nintendo console was notoriously only able to display games in red and black, due to the abundance of cheap red LEDs at the time.
  • However, a new version of the 3DS Virtual Boy emulator, Red Viper, allows users to select a new colour palette, dipping into the settings menu and selecting colour options for four different shades.
  • While other Virtual Boy emulators have permitted users to select a single colour display, Red Viper is the first to allow a multicolour option.
  • There are also RetroArch shader options that have similar functions, but require a lot of technical know-how to operate.
