Summary
As part of what the tech world calls the ‘generative AI revolution’, Microsoft has upgraded two of its most widely used Windows utilities, Paint and Notepad, with AI capabilities
Paint now includes AI options for image creation, Generative Erase, and Remove Background
After prompting for more detail, the Image Creator can generate an image of anything from a giraffe on a beach to a spaceship in the shape of a pineapple
Paint’s Generative Erase and Remove Background features are free to use, but subscriptions to Microsoft 365 or Copilot Pro subscriptions are required to purchase AI credits, which are needed to use the Image Creator
Notepad’s AI upgrade is text-based, allowing for rewritten and tweaked text selections to be made
Options for the tone, length, and structure of rewritten text are available, as well as the ability to choose Rewrite for further options and previews
The use of AI rewrites in Notepad is currently being offered to users for free, but extensive usage will require AI credits associated with a Microsoft or Copilot Pro subscription
