DOGE Is Working on Software That Automates the Firing of Government Workers

Elon Musk’s engineers are reportedly working on AutoRIF (Automated Reduction in Force) software that could be used to automate the government firing of thousands of federal workers.
The software, developed by the DoC over 20 years ago, is designed to expedite the reduction in workforce when necessary, by automatically creating lists of employees ranked according to their potential for redundancy.
Changes to the code have been spotted in the Office of Personnel Management’s GitHub system, in a space created specifically for Musk’s director’s office.
So far, federal firings have been conducted manually, with the most recent round asking workers to summarise their top five work achievements of the previous week via email.
This information was then assessed via a large language model to decide which employees could be let go.
