A recent Pew survey found that a quarter of US public school teachers think that AI tech does more harm than good in education and more than half are unsure about its benefits.
When asked about the use of ChatGPT by students, one teacher said that it encouraged plagiarism and lazy thinking and another said that it made their job harder because they now have to police student use of AI.
Six young Americans aged 12 to 15 were interviewed about their experiences and opinions about AI, here are their summaries:
AI is making studying faster but also making it easier to cheat.
AI is not a replacement for human critical thinking, reading, and writing and that if people lose those skills they will suffer in the end.
AI is infiltrating daily life and is becoming the norm, it is also harmful to the environment and is used to create fake identities for harmful purposes.
It is impossible to tell the difference between reality and AI-generated content.
AI tech could have created a Utopian society if it wasn’t for capitalism.
