Summary
A faked interview with Mark Wahlberg circulated on YouTube in which he argued with talk show host Joy Behar, who appeared to behave in a peculiar and inhuman way.
The footage was created using artificial intelligence (AI), included a voiceover and script written by AI, and lasted 25 minutes.
The video managed to dupe more than 460,000 viewers, who expressed shock and disbelief in the comments section.
Upon investigation, Wired found more than 120 YouTube channels using similar tactics to create AI-generated content, most of which were able to gain credibility by using real clips.
Some of the channels have now been removed by YouTube for not clearly stating that the content is AI-generated and for using misleading titles and thumbnails.
However, the platform reiterated that all content uploaded to YouTube must comply with its community guidelines, and if policy breaches are found, the content will be removed.
