Meta Will Build the World's Longest Undersea Cable

Summary
Meta Platforms has announced a new undersea cables project that it claims will stretch further than the circumference of the Earth and connect five continents, providing much-needed enhanced internet connectivity.
The Waterworth Project will also significantly strengthen Meta’s infrastructure for products such as Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp, as well as boosting the scale and robustness of the world’s digital superhighways, particularly those supporting AI.
The cables, which will be deployed across the Egyptian coastline, will form part of Meta’s strategic approach to “opening new corridors for digital innovation”, particularly in areas where there is insufficient connectivity.
Sunil Tagare, the entrepreneur who initially reported the project last year, said it was a “defining moment” in the history of the company.
