Google’s AI Overview, which provides users with year-based search results, is still malfunctioning, with some users reporting they are being presented with incorrect year data.
The AI bot is responding to users with the message that it is still 2024, even for some locations where it is actually 2025, or giving specific dates in 2024.
This mistake comes despite the company facing criticism last year when the feature went live and began presenting users with incorrect results.
A Google spokesperson has acknowledged the mistake, saying it is working on an update to fix the issue.
The company is also preparing to launch a new AI search tool called AI Mode, designed for longer queries – however, there is no release date for this as yet.
This news follows stories last week that Questogen, a climate impact tech startup, had trained its in-house AI chatbot to swear and make crude jokes, proving that while these bots are increasingly sophisticated, they lack the human ethical conscience.
