As AI agents continue to be adopted by more companies the question of legal responsibility when errors occur is rising.
It is anticipated that aggrieved parties will look to those with the deepest pockets which means companies using AI agents will need to be prepared to take responsibility when issues occur.
One developer, Jay Prakash Thakur, has been working on multi-agent systems that can require minimum human intervention and has come up against issues when attempting to identify blame when agents from different companies miscommunicate.
Existing laws are likely to hold users responsible for the actions of agents, especially when they are warned about their actions and limitations, however, legal experts have suggested that users sign contracts that push responsibility onto the companies supplying the AI technology.
