Summary
Mark Brown, who goes by Game Maker’s Toolkit on YouTube, has had an AI version of his voice used without his consent on a video on a channel called Game Offline Lore.
In the video, a voice very similar to Brown’s is explaining the ins and outs of Doom: The Dark Ages’s story.
Brown has nothing to do with the video and the narration was done without his knowledge.
AI-driven fraud is on the rise and YouTubers are now having to face the problem of theft of their voices as well as their work.
Brown filed a privacy complaint to YouTube, which typically gives the offender 48 hours to remove the content before YouTube gets involved, but the video remains live.
The narrator tells Wired that the video is a significant project that takes around 100 hours of research, script writing, gameplay recording and editing.
After seeing the video, Brown was shocked at how similar the AI voice was to his own.
