The Dream of the Metaverse Is Dying. Manufacturing Is Keeping It Alive

Summary
Industrialists are using the metaverse to check that production lines work by sending a digital twin of a facility and a 3D model through it to find snags, rather than the previous system of physically pushing the car and making alterations.
By 2030, this industrial metaverse will be worth $100bn, according to the World Econimic Forum.
Nvidia’s platform Omniverse is a set of tools for building simulations, running digital twins, and powering automation, and has been adopted by BMW to test production lines and improve collaboration.
It can also be used for capturing and digitising physical environments to train robots in AI, using the data to optimise production.
BMW has created digital models of all its factories, including its newest in Debrecen, Hungary.
Other companies using Omniverse include architectural firm Zaha Hadid Architects and US home improvement chain Lowe’s.
